Over the last 15 years I have worked as a professional musician, mostly as a percussionist. I have done many jobs with different artists and solo. I have reached the highest point that every musician would like to achieve. But since a year ago I have no job. Nobody calls me to play or record. Maybe I'm not as good a musician as I thought. You see this as a personal failure? What would you do in a similar situation? |

I know how you feel. I've worked at the top of my field for a similar length of time, before my job was offshored about 6 months ago. Since then, it's been peaks and troughs, lots of interviews, some to the last stage, but still not working. What happens is a big dose of imposter syndrome, you start to doubt the skills that you built over the years. You also lose the inspiration that made you good in the first place. You need to do two things, one is to keep up your skills, ideally use the time to add something new which can form your new usp. Also keep on top of life. Secondly, don't wait for them to come to you, seek out the new opportunities, even you need to start them yourself. |
