He mentions in the book that it is in every chapter and while inspired by it, I did not have a clear idea of one single secret after reading the book.
Did anyone discover a "secret", or is it something we each identify that is personal to us?

I used Think and Grow Rich to reach my goals. And then I forgot about it. Napolean Hill's main theme, in my humble opinion, is holding one dominant thought, in your mind, until it comes true in reality. Dominant thought plus your belief in it will make your dominant thought come true. I used it to get to university when I was younger. I was told that I was not good in soccer and my coach told me to study hard and get into University Malaya (UM). So for 5 years, I held that dream, always thinking and believing that I will get into UM. I dreamt of UM, not University Malaya. When it was time to get into university, I took a bank loan and went overseas. On my graduation day 4 years later, I finally noticed the words UM embossed on the pencil that I was buying as a souvenir. My problem when holding my thought for all these years was that I was not precise or definite in the UM that I wanted to go to. So, instead of getting into University Malaya, I ended up in University of Manitoba. I could have ended up at the University of Michigan or some other university. But the main thing was that I always believed that I was going to get into UM. And somehow the Universe got me to my goal. Napolean Hill said that we should think of the end result without worrying about the details in between. And that was precisely what I did. I always held the end result in my mind without worrying about how to get there (at that time I was young and naive and didnt think about how to get there). Since then, I have used this technique one more time to get the salary that I wanted. And now I am using it to become a millionaire. My only obstacle in reaching my goal - my belief that I can become a millionaire. Once I can believe in myself, then I'll reach my goal. |

There are two ways to think about this, and helpfully they reduce to the same thing. If your happy to trust that the author has a secret then you also have to trust the author's position that 'the only way to properly digest the secret is to discover it for yourself', and thus just asking for it defeats the purpose... On the other hand, if you don't trust that there is a secret, you can take the position that maybe it's at best, a nice way of attempting to ensure that your readers fully engage with the material, and at worst a cynical sales tactic that in some ways stands in direct opposition to the whole point of writing a book to share knowledge. |

Your question can be answered in two different ways:
PS: But to be complete in my answer: The book is very tempting and well written. I was inspired myself by it. But on my search to get deeper I came across things that not everyone believes in. There is nothing wrong to make plans and act on them! Do it! But to play with forces and believe in something so undefined is dangerous in ways that a lot of people do not believe in and do not care about as long as they get what they want. I myself detached from this thinking and very happy about founded the way, the truth and life. |

Whatever you think, will happen. Dream big, big things happen. Worry about problems, you will get more problems. |

There is no any secret. Look, our life will be over some day. I think, we must live. Not just exist, but live. If you have a dream, if you do want something, you'll "burn". You will work to realize your dream. And doing this, you'll be happy. You'll find yourself. But if you get up every morning, have a breakfast, go to work/school/institute, have a lunch, do something you do every day, have a dinner, do another bored things, go home, have a supper, watch TV or doing on-line chat / browse Internet / watch movie, go to bad. You think, that you are tired, you'll start sport exercises tomorrow. You doing it every day and it is how your life passed. Don't be passive! I think, Hill's mind is the way to happiness: have a DREAM --> form your AIMS --> make the PLAN --> WORK --> ... --> WORK and you'll got your dreams come true. I wish you luck! |
