This is the authoritative introduction to Lucid Dreaming. Then there's a lot more you can find on the web. Most techniques and applications of lucid dreaming seem to focus on personal development and self-awareness and knowledge.

Though these are great things to pursue, I'm also interested in more practical ways I can use it to 'sleep' more effectively on ideas, improving and coming up with new ones, and overall letting the magic work on problem-solving of my waking-time work. Are there methods to turn it into a tool for speeding up this thought-simmering of the subconscious mind?

Since the limits of dreams are non existing you could try to dream about using an existing problem-solving techique in your dream.

Some problem-solving techniques:

  • Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)
  • Soft Systems Methodology (SSM)
  • Appreciative Inquiry
  • The Simplex Process
  • The Straw Man Concept
