As currently written, this is a polling question, which is a no-no. It should be rephrased to note the specific problem you're trying to fix. –  Belisama Jun 7 '12 at 10:07

I decide this based on this rule: Does it matter exactly when I do it?

If no: this is a task which goes into my task list (example: check finances, backup my data). Usually without a due date.

If yes: this goes into the calendar (example: appointments). If some work is required, it also goes into the task list (example: business meeting where some preparation is needed, presentation). I also set a due date for the task so my task management software can sort it on top (I like to do tasks with a "hard due date" first).

But, by definition, any task you periodically repeat has a somewhat fixed time slot. –  user6076 Jun 8 '12 at 17:47

@user6076: you could say that. But I'm talking about the difference in flexibility: If I change my toothbrush two days later. In contrast: not preparing for a weekly meeting in time will possibly end in a desaster. There may however be examples which can not easily sorted into these two categories. –  0x6d64 Jun 9 '12 at 12:16
