On my work computer, a MacBook Pro with 8GB memory running Mac OS X 10.6.8, I usually have Thunderbird running at all time. It constantly takes 500 MB memory. Is there any email client with smaller memory footprint that I can try out?

Is its memory usage causing actual issues, e.g., when it's swapped back in (if it's actually being swapped out) it's taking too long? In other words, what's your goal other than reducing absolute memory usage? – Dave Newton Jun 15 '12 at 21:45

As written, this question would be more appropriate on maybe Super User or Ask Different. To be on topic here, as Dave alluded to, you need an explicit tie to productivity. – Belisama Jun 15 '12 at 21:47
Mail.app uses about 90MB on my machine. – 0x6d64 Jun 16 '12 at 19:16
