I live in Bangladesh, a 3rd world country.

I have completed Bachelor and Masters in IT. But, I have joined a banking corporation as a Management Trainee Officer. My activity here is related to general banking.

Now, to advance my career in banking, what should I do? ACCA or an MBA from a reputed university in my country? Or, both?

What are the scopes of ACCA and/or MBA in banking?

I think it all depends on what you are doing for the bank. With a background in IT, I'm assuming you're not doing accounting? – scientifics Jun 19 '12 at 15:48
Administration has recruited different personnel from different backgrounds as MTOs. Currently they are all doing General Banking. Which department they will be placed is a decision that will come after the completion of the probation period. – BROY Jun 19 '12 at 15:49

Here's what I would do. Go for the MBA. Here's why. As an entry level employee, gaining a background in the general principles of accounting, management, economics and how business operates will give you enough background to a.) be more valuable to your employer, and b.) decide if you want FURTHER education or certifications in other areas.

Think if it like this: You can get an MIS, but it won't really be until AFTER your degree that you start to think about whether you want to move toward project management, security, programming, infrastructure...but having a little of everything from your MIS will help you understand the bigger picture and help you determine your next steps in personal development.

I would go for the MBA. It is not in your option, but I suggest that you go outside your country to get it. Not only it would be a very good personal experience, but you would also get and edge over potential concurrents in your bank. Moreover, MBA from reputed country would open much opportunities in case you have to search for a new job.
