Personal Productivity Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people wanting to improve their personal productivity. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Everyone knows that taking a break can increase productivity but what is the most effective way to take a break? Is there a correlation between number, length and frequency of breaks to productivity increases?

I understand that this could be interpreted subjectively but I am looking for studies that have been done that proves a method's effectiveness.

Anecdotal evidence in this case is not sufficient. The study must be able to produce data indicative of measurable result.

Hi Stephen, I think this question is going to result in many subjective answers, as it does vary from individual to individual. Your best bet is going to be to read some of the questions in the Related column to the right, as they cover off many specific aspects. If you have a more defined question that is answerable, please edit this q and we may be able to re-open. – Rory Alsop Dec 5 '12 at 9:23

That answer discusses the optimal frequency and length of breaks. I'm exploring what activities during breaks enhance productivity more effectively. – Stephen Lew Dec 6 '12 at 11:24
Stephen - can you update your question then? It currently doesn't mention activities at all. – Rory Alsop Dec 6 '12 at 13:16
