I am searching for a CMS where I can flag if I had an interaction with a client and then it automatically notifies me a period of time later to remind me to contact them again. This is essentially all I need it to do.

I am currently using HighRise, but I don't see this function. I have also been exposed to Zoho, but it just seems too heavy.

I realise that you can achieve this same result with calendars (for example), but I am looking for a very simple and automatic way for this to happen.

I do not know this space at all, but reviewing both HighRise and Zoho, it does seem possible to varying degress.

If there is a full API, you could certainly program this yourself, but I suspect that is not what you are after.

A long Zoho discussion board thread does mention that email event creation is available as a workflow feature in their Enterprise edition.

Alternately using logic from their birthday example, you might be able to accomplish your goal.

I can't find anything on their website that confirms this is a function, but in the little bit of work I've done with Microsoft CRM it has so many features I can't imagine that it doesn't have this capability (and it integrates with Outlook, so worst case I'm sure the functionality you're looking for could be accomplished with a combination of Outlook at CRM).

They also have a trial period and customer support resources you could probably use to find out for sure.

If a full-on CRM solution is more than you're looking for then I'd suggest just putting a task to follow up with your customers into a To Do application (see the "Due Dates and Repeat" section under my answer on how I use RTM as an example) or some implementation of a GTD tickler file.
