I'm not using EN this quarter because my coursework is just Math and I cannot type math really fast. But all of my homework is done online, and there's a lot of homework. I've made written lists but need a more sophisticated and simple way to keep track of homework assignments using Evernote.

Here's what I don't want: Create new notes for every assignment and move them to "Done" notebook from "Pending" notebook. That's too time consuming (relatively) and naive, IMO.

Since I do not have to write any essays, there is not research involved as well. So I'm not sure if creating a new note for every assignment is a good idea.

Any ideas people?

You math work can be scanned or even photographed with a phone camera. Even the basic version of Evernote will convert text and make it searchable. I've done this with things written on a white board as well. – JeffO Apr 9 '13 at 17:37

You could create a note for each assignment and change the tags from "#pending" to "#done", leaving them in the same notebook. Smart searches would then let you get the list of #pending assignments. I don't see that as much different than moving between notebooks, but you might.

If you don't want to create a separate note for each assignment, and you must use Evernote, then it seems to me your other option is to create a single note "Assignments". Put an entry in that note for each assignment, and delete the entry when the assignment is done. Or use the checkbox feature and check off the assignment when done. That seems to me to be at least as time consuming as separate notes for each task, but again it might be different for you.

You could try using the Evernote add-on for Sticky Notes, that way you can have 2 notes in your desktop (Pending and Done) that get synchronized to your account if you make any changes.

That way, you avoid creating a single note for every assignment and you have a visual reminder of what to do.

To keep track of my assignments I created a note titled: Unfinished units (or assignments) where I wrote down the subject of that unit and what I needed to complete for the assignment of that unit.

Eg: Unfinished Units

Process Word Documents - Final Assessment, Skill Builder, Assessment Activities << (I would also highlight the tasks to know that they were all different)

As I completed the different parts of the unit I would delete them.

Once units were completed I had another note ready for them titled: Completed Units.

Eg. Completed Units

Process Word Documents (I would put a checkbox next to it and tick it)

Using this method was a lifesaver! It may sound complicated and time consuming but its actually extremely easy and kept me so organised. I start studying again in January so will definitely be using this method :) Hope it helps! I know the post is old, but it may be handy for someone else :)
