I talk to myself aloud through out the day. I never felt it weird. But it does get embarrassing when colleagues give you weird looks. I know I am not alone though.

Also I am introvert. So it sort of makes me think if my introverted nature is the reason for talking to myself(Do extroverts talk to themselves ?).

So my question is: Is talking to your self a good thing? Are there any studies in this subject ? Also does talking to yourself have anything to do with being an introvert or extrovert ?

You mean you talk to yourself aloud? In general, explaining things to yourself is completely natural. Though it's way more fun to involve a real person – Balog Pal Jun 12 '13 at 8:03
@BalogPal yes I meant talking to your self aloud . – minusSeven Jun 12 '13 at 8:07

Dr Linda Sapadin at PsychCentral argues that talking to yourself may promote your mental health:

Talking with yourself not only relieves the loneliness, it may also make you smarter. It helps you clarify your thoughts, tend to what’s important and firm up any decisions you’re contemplating. There’s just one proviso: You become smarter only if you speak respectfully to yourself.

Let's look from the colleagues' angle. At workplace any sound is unwelcome by nature. If it's necessary, like work-related conversation between people, it's tolerated. (to some extent ;)

But that does not apply to your case. I suggest working on this part to do it at very low volume, and then without anything audible. You can keep moving your mouth, gesticulate, etc, just stop your lungs applying air.

I don't think being introvert and talking is connected but you can ask your doc. And it's not a problem if the noise part is mitigated.

Well, I am an introvert, and I never felt the need to talk to myself out loud. I can understand why you get funny looks. In most cultures people do not talk to themselves. (To be honest, I like it that way - imagine an office with 20 people, half of them talking to themselves...) I guess I'll start collecting downvotes now.

Perhaps you want to plug a bluetooth headset into your ear, then it might look like you are on the phone with someone... just make sure to make a few pauses now and then.

I believe yes it is very good! You might fear that people around you consider you as weird but you can do it at home or at any other place. Even shouting by saying SOMETHING to yourself. I used to do that almost every day. I would ask myself questions looking at a mirror, or talk to myself inside. Generally in both cases talking to yourself is very important and normal!
