This question already has an answer here:

What's the norm? I was thinking of having a break every 1 hour. How long should a break normally be?

And in general how long do people study before taking breaks?

Is a 5-10 minute break enough before repeating the process?

In all of the studying I do, I have found that being able to take breaks whenever I want to can be detrimental. Although a 5-10 minute break every hour doesn't seem bad, you may not be breaking enough. I'd definitely recommend the Pomodoro Technique.
