It seems like every system I've tried is missing something.

  • Remember the Milk
    Requires paid for android application and requires a lot of tinkering because of it's flexibility.

  • Producteev
    Doesn't support SSL on free workspaces and if you use multiple workspaces this is an expensive feature.

  • Evernote
    Requires a lot of customization, found the whole idea confusing.

  • Toodledo
    Poor UI

  • Google Tasks Lacks many features

  • Springpad
    No SSL, requires some customization to get up and running

So what out there can I use that includes the features I need?

The important thing is to follow through with the GTD process; perhaps you are focusing too much on the application? (That's okay, happens to the rest of us too!) It's much too easy to focus on finding the perfect app instead of doing things. Find something that has just about everything you want then make it work. Also go with something that just feels natural and comes easily - might not be digital at all. – David Aug 23 '11 at 13:49
I am back to using Remember the Milk, at least for now. The Android app is quite good (could do without the constant syncing, but a minor issue). I have a shell script in Linux that allows me to add a task extremely quick. – Corey D Aug 24 '11 at 16:13

I'm using Nozbe with the Iphone client and I really like it even if it's not free, there is also an Android client .

I think I passed this up previously because they do not (and still do not) advertise the existence of the Android client on their website. Looks like the Android client is extremely buggy for everyone. – Corey D Aug 24 '11 at 16:09
I have contacted their support regarding this. Apparently, the Android application is in beta, which is both why it is buggy, and why it is not mentioned. Aside from this, Nozbe has a really good GTD implementation. – NT3RP Sep 1 '11 at 17:44

You should definitely try Wunderlist.

The reason - it's free, works on many platforms, has cool interface, and it isn't overwhelmed with features. It actually helps to focus on doing things, not arranging tasks, tags, managing views, etc.

I've been using RTM for years, and it always turned into playing with tags/contexts/smart searches, instead of actually doing my tasks.

It works on your iPhone, Android, the iPad, on PC & Mac or online with our brand-new browser version.

Last time I checked Wunderlist did not support repeating tasks. This was very important to my. – Henrik Aug 26 '11 at 6:31

Remember the Milk is the best GTD app I used on Android. Although you need pay some but it worth.

Now I transferred to iOS, then Omnifocus must be the best app. What a pity it does not have Android version.

Give NirvanaHQ a shot if you're willing to rely on your browser on Android. It does a nice job of implementing a lot of GTD principles. Don't miss out on their "version 2" that's still in beta but seems pretty solid.

I have to agree with you that the second version is really solid, and it does work itself a bit more towards the GTD principle. Doit.im is a free service that has client for both Android, Web, Iphone. If you are looking for a free GTD app this is a good one.

I recommend MyLifeOrganized. It has cloud syncing, clients for Android as well as iPhone/iPad and Windows mobile. Do not know about SSL for sure, but think it is also present under the hood.

The problem with all of the GTD apps (and ToDo/Tasks apps) in mobile is that they are somehow cumbersome to use. Most of them implement their categories by dropdowns. Which doesn't let you see your categories just by looking at the screen. you have to click on your dropdown and choose from the many lists of your categories.

Other apps like Any.do are nice to look at but in my own experience when your lists is big and is divided into many categories especially categories of getting things done methodology like Next Action, Someday/Maybe, then you are left baffled and feels like your lists are not organized at all.

With these in mind, I - who have tried almost all of the GTD apps in the market - have created my own GTD application that is very different from all others in terms of user interface.

You'll be surprised at how its user interface sets it apart from all of the rest of the GTD apps out there but manages to be the most effective user interface in the market for his personal use.

Uh, yeah. That's because Evernote is a note taking application, not a task manager / GTD app.

"Hey gosh! My barbecue doesn't spin-dry my laundry very well. It requires a lot of customization and I found the whole process confusing."

Some people say that they have implemented GTD with Evernote, and there are guides out there how to do it, so it's quite reasonable to include it into the list IMO. – 0x6d64 May 29 '12 at 6:42
