@par hold your fingertip about half a finger length from your nose, and look at it. Then move it to the height of your brows. Then close your eyes. Hold that position. It should not hurt, if it does, hold your finger farther.

Please read The Willpower Instinct: How Self-Control Works, Why It Matters, and What You Can Do to Get More of It goodreads.com/book/show/10865206-the-willpower-instinct to understand why you make lists but don't act on them. First step to recovery.

comment Making good use of a sabbatical
@AsheeshR well, from the takeaways listed above, 1) was a success to stay somewhat focused, 2) was not so useful since I ended up taking whatever the time needed was and 3) was hard to do with the kids so all in all I didn't get a lot done but at least I worked on things I wanted to work on in the first place.

+1 for TDD. Spend some time setting up tests for your project (it's fun to set up). Then think of a minimum feature/function that you need to have. Write a minimal test that exercises it. Run it, it should fail. Write the code that implements it. Run the test and fix the code until it succeeds. Repeat. TDD really helps keeping focus on your code goals.

You're doing it wrong. Just code in JavaScript with NodeJS server-side and and then you don't have to learn any other languages, ever ;-)
