It gets down to how much your creative process depends on putting actual pen to actual paper. My wife (who writes novels, among the other things she does extremely well) does part of her thinking in paper journals, and she's convinced it makes a difference in that part of her creative process. For that situation, a tool that's pen and paper at its core would be a shorter bridge to cross. But, if you're ambivalent toward pen and paper, then it matters less what form the tool is in.
