comment How to identify the ideal time to go to sleep and wake up?
Sleeping at sunset (or even dusk) and rising at sunrise (or even dawn) wouldn't really work unless you're willing to sleep 14-15 hours in the winter. You might consider: sleep at sunset, wake whenever you naturally wake (middle of the night), return to sleep when you feel like it, wake again at dawn. There is some evidence this is what people did in colonial times.

comment I have trouble motivating myself to read programming books
Read programming tutorials (short stories) instead, and learn programming by programming, not by reading. Or, watch the movie version (ie, coursera.com or khanacademy.org or something)

comment Flatbed scanner with feeder and external USB drive port?
Thanks @Raystafarian. I meant that the scanner may want to work only with its own (Windows/MAC) software, and that my Linux box won't know how to send the "scan next page" signal. If SANE can't send that signal, I don't think software could (the software would communicate with SANE, I'm guessing).

comment Flatbed scanner with feeder and external USB drive port?
Thanks. I actually have SANE installed and use it to scan from my flatbed (one-page-at-a-time) HP PSC 1510. However, it was a real pain to setup (I'm on Fedora 11, which I realize is a bit dated). I'm worried that scanning page-after-page will add complications, assuming the scanner wants some sort of software signal for "next page".

That might be most cost-effective. One concern I had was getting it work w/ my Linux machine, but maybe I could find one with internal storage or one where I can attach an external USB drive or something.

A quick google search shows bulk scanning starts at 3.5c/page, which seems low per page, but high overall, especially since they charge etc for removing staples, imperfect documents, etc.

I'd like to accomplish this with the tools I have, but am open to low-cost new/different tools. For double sided documents, I'll run them through once "face up" and once again "face down". I'm trying to lower the amount of time I spend tending the scanner, but realize I can't bring it down to zero.

Sadly, my HP PSC 1510 doesn't have this function (home office). Kinko's or someone may do this, but it could get pricey (I am literally trying to scan in 30+ years worth of data... including printed VIC 20 program listings!)

comment How do I respond faster while conversing?
For me, watching "Whose Line Is It Anyway" (British version) helped a lot. Other improv programs (or even attending an improv class/group) probably would too. However, if you find yourself constantly re-reading text many times, you may have a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder, and should at least talk to a doctor.

Minor addition to this excellent list: use of psuedoephedrine or other legal "uppers"... or "downers" like some antihistamines, certain pain medications, sleeping pills (obviously), etc.
