comment Data entry: from paper vs. from screen
FRankly when I did process improvement, I woudl not ever start with what I want the answer to be as you have done. First you document the current processs by observation and talking tothe people doing it) then you look at places where things could be easier, but never do you suggest something the people themselves do not favor doing. That is a change doomed to failure. I suspect that if you actually took the time to observe how they work rather than assuming they are stupid , you would find that there are things they do that are not easy to do with the onscreen version.

And some of us don't carry mobile phones everywhere, nor do we have a reason to do so.

comment How to get couch potato to improve productivity
It is fruitless to try to change other people. Learn to be accepting and yes learn to say no to people who are leaching on you. You don't need to change them, you only need to change how you react to it. If someone is so annoying that you don't want them in your life, then remove them, but don't expect that other people will change to meet your desires.

comment What are the “mental hacks” for sticking to a field for decades?
WEll at least this answers why there is so much poor sotfware out there. You start with experienced people not bring them in after the less experienced have screwed up the product.

comment Process for constructive criticism
I have seen way to many people leave a meeting where the manager used the sandwich technique (say something good, tell teh bad thing then say something else good) thinking they were fine when the manager was trying to tell them they had to change or get fired. If the behavior must change, the person needs to hear that specifically and not have it watered down with fake praise. If the person is doing well but needs a tweak, then the sandwich technique is fine, but when they are doing poorly, it just makes them think everything is OK.

@Yves, No seriously, print the copies and turn off the computer to read, then you aren't tempted by all the other content out there.

comment Does following a highly disciplined religion help in improving personal productivity?
Athiests can also be very productive and creativee people are often the ones less likely to follow strict rules and yet they can be very productive. Even people in religions with strict rules often do not follow them. I think this question is like asking if you are more productive if you eat apples or if you eat steak.

comment How to solve my personal issues to be productive and happy person
If you do decide to seek a therapist, I would suggest that you might find one who specializes in behavior modification. They will teach you the specific skills you need to stop the negative self-talk and start taking action.

You could time your breaks with a kitchen timer. And avoid the Internet while on break, that is addictive. Do something more physical.

5-10 minutes most of the time (long enough to go to the bathroom, grab something to drink and walk around for a couple of minutes) with one longer break in the middle of the study hours (to grab some food and/or do something fun) if you are going to be studying for a long time.

comment How to do intellectual work pressed by deadline under extremely bad emotional conditions
Glad it helped. I do live happy most of the time. My two rescued doggies see to that! These things are hard (losing Karl was by far the hardest thing I ever had to deal with), but they do get better over time. It taught me compassion as well. I reach out more to people (and doggies!) when they need it and that is a blessing.

comment recover from depression
I don't think we can help this person. But a secret I've learned from life is that nothing will ever get better as long as you blame your troubles on someone else. You can only fix what you do and you have to recognize that what you do needs fixing before you will.

I've never known anyone in depression treatment who stopped working unless they actually were committed to a mental health institution. Even then, they just took leave.

I use very soft very slow music at a very low volume. And never ever using earphones, you must use speakers.
