What's the point of this question? What's wrong with the simplest solution? Are you looking for a method that meets your particular criteria (what are they?), or just a laundry list of all possible methods, no matter how impractical?

comment Is it possible to learn foreign languages effectively by watching tv series?
Very good point about remembering to turn off the subtitles after a while. I'd say it might be good to even do that periodically early on, to try to push yourself and not let your brain get used to getting all the information on a platter.

comment Does fluctuating sleep habits decrease productivity?
Is there really evidence that sleeping less than 8 hours some days is likely to lead to ADD? Could you include a link? This sounds pretty surprising, and would probably cause a lot of people to change their sleep habits if it was widely known.

What do you mean by "converted a piece of text to a music file", just to be clear?

comment How do I take quick notes in odd places to maintain mind like water?
@Belisama - Yeah, I agree with you on purses and don't know much about them or how easy it is to find non-awful ones. But a leather passport pouch type thing sounds good.

Damn, I can't imagine how annoying it must be to not have pockets. Sounds like another reason to stay in academia and as far away from jobs requiring fashionable professional attire as possible...

comment Is it beneficial to shower with cold water?
"burning calories" does not mean something is good for you. However, waking yourself up is useful enough.

I don't know, that would be much more likely to get me into a "spend all day reading technology blogs" mood...

comment Equipment for computer-printing, into a notebook
Why can't you just print things out and use a binder, though? It seems vastly simpler and quicker than attempting to print onto bound notebook pages.

comment My open office is not effective in increasing my productivity, how can I counter this?
+1 for talking to your employer. If the open setup is intended to increase productivity, they should want to know if it's not working! Hopefully they can help you settle on at least a partial solution. The wall of notes sounds funny and possibly useful too!

Taking notes and repetition are both excellent suggestions.

+1 for talking to a therapist especially (I've done it myself, it did help with work issues), as well as for the rest of the answer.

+1 - if you tear pages out, then this isn't the kind of notebook that's legally required to be bound and have every page accounted for, so why not just switch to something that will clearly work better for the use you're actually making of it? And if you really want it to be bound eventually, just buy a spiral-binding machine or take it to Kinko's once you're done adding to it.

comment What can I do if my boyfriend sabotages all efforts
It doesn't sound like motivation is your main problem - I don't think anyone could be expected to be motivated when they know the results of their work will be undone instantly. It sounds to me like you need to figure out a better balance in your relationship, at least with regard to chores. Hard to tell how without knowing the details, but... Back off a bit and stop spending so much time cleaning, so he has time to notice the mess? Talk to him about what level of clean he wants the place to be and whether that's very different from your preferred level? Hire a cleaning service?

comment At what point do you start saying “No”, to new tasks and how do you deal with it?
"do push to work only 40-ish hours a week." - this is a very important point and I can't resist emphasising it.

comment How to plan a month of work in advance
How would you forget that things need to be done if you have them all written up as a list? Same with the feeling of progress - as long as you're getting things done (and can cross them off a list! ;)), you should have it, unless no deadlines would make you not get things done, in which case that's a problem.
