Visual Communications Professional with a background in technology. In the thick of learning Java, PHP & MySQL to augment my web skills. I'm taking a shine to programming a lot more than I thought I would.

Task estimated to be 8 pomodori, what to do? True dat, true dat. Like I said, the INTENT of the system..making sure you take breaks to avoid burning out...is more important that than method itself. |

Has anyone ever seen any basic, temporally intelligent scheduling tools out there? That's actually a good point; I'll revise my question to clarify, as I'm actually visualizing this as Pomodoro-ing tasks, but allowing for scheduled appointments to NOT be included with Pomodoro-izable time slots. There. I just invented two words. :) |

how to keep focus in long term? When it came time for me to learn Java, I didn't find it as interesting as other things. I made it interesting by building myself a financial tracking application -- that was something that I needed, was loathe to buy into one of the overly bloated packages that were out there. My interest in thumbing my nose at commercial software made the exercise bearable. |

how to keep focus in long term? @mrkafk RE: SAP. I never said I wasn't smart. Now, the companies that pay my bills...I can't speak for them. But since they chose to invest in SAP and are stuck with that technology, we can certainly make inferences. :) |

how to keep focus in long term? @mrkafk Connecting to a consistent whole...I like that idea. I tend toward that as well. My motivation would then come from learning the different pieces until I have a consistent whole. Cool thought. |

How can I organize my daily deals emails? I think that what @Jeanne is getting at is that unless you can quantify "something good" into something you can turn into a rule, it's going to be difficult. What is something you want to buy? Right now, I've got a rule set up looking for 32GB MiniSD cards. I still have to look at prices, but at least I only have to cull through one or two emails a week rather than five every day. Some of these companies might have an RSS feed as an alternative to emails...use an RSS aggregator, perhaps? |

How to start as a customer-hunter? can you edit the question to give more detail about what does and doesn't work for you about the target thing? Is it just that you're not accustomed to it? and is it that you're not accustomed to being given goals, or the door-to-door begging? As it stands, the question's really vague for me. |

how can i design forms like this I couldn't ahve said it any better. Although, perhaps as a PART of 2, or perhaps as 2a, I think it's critical to understand what your end result is supposed to be. I've found that understanding to be criticla to designing effective processes and procedures. |

Complete loss of focus / wanting to work @AdamTester writers often will tell you that they treat writing like a job...typing from 8-5 everyday with an hour for lunch. A schedule may be just the ticket. ...and don't fight the cycles. You'll get done what needs to be done. :) |

Where should I store good advice? I don't review ~everything~, but as I categorize things daily, I see the items that on my lists. I rely on the cocktail party effect (sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/11/081119175851.htm) to guide me to important things for NOW. I review tags/notebooks every few days...not on any set schedule, but more "I've not looked at the bokos I want to read in a while." I useSpringPad as a to-do list, and have just disciplined myself to not be desensitized and work with it daily to keep it relevant. It's a lot of information, but this works for me to break it into manageable chunks. |

How to retain focus without coffee? @Belisama - true dat. I just clarified my response; I was intending to note that my experience of mate has been very smooth compared to other caffeinated bevs. Of course, I'd failed miserably at communicating that...thanks for calling me out. :) |

Is it possible to learn while sleeping? @Renan - no, it's not been proven to work except by studies NOT subject to common scientific rigor. The most efficent way to do it, if it does work FOR YOU is the way you discover best fits your learning style...which will come from exploration and testing. Good luck! |

Is it possible to learn while sleeping? Answering the question depends on how you define sleep. Simon and Evans, in 1956, found correlations between retention and alpha waves--the waves of a relaxed, unencumbered mind. No statistically significant increase in learning or retention was noted during sleep. |

Schedules, timetable or tasklist? Put it on a list so you DON'T forget it, but don't worry so much about whether you've allocated enough hours, or if it's in a calendar or a list or a schedule. As others have said, having a big picture goal (e.g., the list of English chapters due by such-and-such date) will be what keeps you on track. You can set small individual goals...like WHICH chapter to read/study/test AS NEEDED as you progress. |
