Selected Words of Wisdom

  • Perfect is the enemy of good. Often 20% of the effort will produce 80% of the desired result (the Pareto Principle).
  • The devil is in the details. Make a proof-of-concept to ensure that you haven't overlooked a detail that will derail your project.
  • Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.
  • Capers Jones: High-quality software is not expensive. High-quality software is faster and cheaper to build and maintain than low-quality software, from initial development all the way through total cost of ownership.

comment What to do when starting to feel sick?
I would not recommend large doses of vitamins. Vitamin C's ability to fight colds is "insignificant", say scientists involved in a large study. The same thing appears to be the case for vitamin D. It is however true that children in countries with little daylight need vitamin D supplements, to reduce the risk of various health problems.
